Travel Bullet Matcha Latte

Matcha tea is a great option if you are looking for a coffee alternative or just want to add a healthy energizing warm drink to your morning. I have shifted towards Matcha recently during my yoga teacher training here in Ubud Bali because it has the energizing effects of coffee while at the same time calming the mind; perfect for before meditation or a yoga class (Buddhist monks use it for the same reason). These relaxing anti-anxiety effects are due to the amino acid l-theanine, which also improves memory, learning and over all brain functioning while releasing more “happy hormones” serotonin and dopamine. To top it off, matcha is an anti-inflammatory powder house, blowing “superfoods” like acai and gogi berries out of the water. I like to add healthy fats like coconut oil, coconut butter or nut milk to my tea to aid the the absorption of these compounds and also make it a bit creamier.

I recommend a small blender to make this drink frothy and delicious, but it can also be accomplished in a blender bottle that you shake by hand.

Bullet Matcha Recipe:

  • 1-2 tsp High grade matcha powder (I use Ippodo or Trader Joe’s Organic)
  • 1.5 cups almost boiling water
  • 1 tsp unrefined virgin coconut oil or coconut butter (I use Trader Joe’s travel packets)
  • 2 tsp canned coconut milk ( or nut milk of choice)
  • Optional: 1 tbsp vanilla protein powder of choice or vital proteins collagen peptides

If you don’t have coconut or nut milk just add a bit more coconut oil and a bit more water, and if you must have a sweetener besides the nut milk I would opt for stevia!

To make:

Combine all ingredients in your blender and blend on High of 20-30 seconds until frothy!

  1. Delicious! I love to put it into my ice-cream maker. Matcha Ice Cream is probably the easiest to make at home without having to gather too many ingredients, just coconut milk, matcha and sugar.
